Michelle will be missed.

I will comment on Wags' excellent take on episode 3 below, but wanted to give a glimpse to fans who don't/won't dedicate 2 hours of their night to watch the show.

You can watch it all or skip to the 2:00 minute mark for some great Bachelor contrived drama...and possibly where Jake turns the corner at the 2:10 mark into a likable Bachelor.

  1. I object to any notion that Jake is now a "likeable bachelor" - I think his moves were forced by Michelle's needyness. And as low as Jake's self-esteem is, I think that Jake takes personal offense to people around him that feel like they can out perform Jake at his own game. Michelle thought she can be more needy than Jake so now she's. Roz thought she could hook up more than Jake so she's gone. Woman Pilot = competition = Gone. Elizabeth thinks she can throw a football better than Jake. GONE. Which now explains why Jake was so eager to play the roll of snitch last season! It wasn't about Jillian... WES WAS OUT-DOUCHING JAKE AND JAKE COULDN'T HANDLE IT. It seems odd to think about it now, but it's true. Jake is a douche of emmense proportions was completely overshowed in that catagory week-in and week-out by Wes and his #1 hit on AM radio stations in Chihuhua, Mexico and probably parts of Spain. Between Wes and Tanner P, they stole all the douche screen time from Jake. The weird part is either of those douches would make for much more entertaining Bachelors than Jake.

So as for this season's snitches, I am liked how Corrie handled it. Yea, her stand up wasn't the most creative but it served its purpose. She A) got her standup time out of the way B) called out vienna in front of Jake without a super dramatic, contrived bachelor moment C) can always just say, it was just a joke in any confrontations later in the show and D) it was really focused on making the other girls laugh, which means she could be the lone woman there that doesn't have the most fatal of all flaws: Liking Jake. Well Played Corrie, here's hoping you're girl #3 to take yourself out of this season.

Jake is so far past being a 'likable' person/dude, so these "normal guy" moves strike me as him being coached behind the scenes on how to act like Kobe had to after the Shaq Fiasco & Rape Trial & Phil Jackson Book. I don't like either of the moves FOR Jake. Michelle was just Vienna without a filter. Elizabeth was just more stuborn Vienna with a control problem. They should have been the final 3, with Roz coming back for "the most shocking finale EVER". I think ABC was overwhelmed with the amount of crazy they had and started trying to dump the excess this episode... as the previews show for next week it looks like Chris is going to try to get him to get rid of even more of the crazies.

  2. Your objection is noted, but I want to defend my "likeable" comment. No man or woman in their right mind would find Jake likable. Wags and I were pretty upset when they made Jake the next Bachelor but I think that was our distaste for Jake as a person. But for the good of the blog, I think Jake is working out just fine. Throw in 3 or 4 more Michelle's and I see Emmy's in this show's future.

Speaking of Michelle, there need to be some differences pointed out between the Bachelor and Bachelorette. There seems to be an even break between women on the Bachelor that just want a man of any kind and those that just want the Bachelor. The single moms, Michelle, Viennas of the world could care less if its Jake or Tiny Tim - they just want a man that will give them a ring.

On the bachelorette, I feel the guys do want the girl, and not just a girl. We can talk about how they are more excited by the competition/game aspect than any romance/love part, but that is for next season's blog.

Speaking of next season's blog, who is the early favorite to be The Bachelorette?

    Ali?
    Roz?
    Katie Morgan?
    Corrie?
    Vienna?

  3. Thanks for the video dugan. Great to have it archived for future observations and commentary.

Regarding the next bachelorette, I think Ali is a mortal lock. She meets many requirements for being the next bachelorette:
    1) she's not going to win. She seems like the favorite at this point, but as dugan has pointed out many times before, the favorite never wins.
    2) she's going to go far in the competition. Ali is clearly a better choice than some of these other duds. Even Jake can figure that out.
3). She's well liked by the audience. Everyone I talk to about the show likes ali. Especially women. Roz will never be adored by women for obvious reasons. Tenley is a divorcee. Corrie hasn't distinguished herself yet except for the comedy routine. If ali can chill out her fighting with Vienna, I would probably put real money on her to be the next bachelorette.
